Our overseas correspondent

G'day everyone,

Have been in Sydney for 2 days now and I'm loving it. It was really weird actually because I didn't really feel like I was in Sydney yet until Carolyn took me for coffee at Circular Quay and I caught my first glimpse of the harbour bridge and the opera house. As you can imagine - I was quite excited!!!!

Had my first visit to the University when I had to attend a welcome to Sydney lecture thing. It was really useful, although quite embarrassing at first as there were only three of us there and so we had to do some of those introduce yourself to the group and say some fascinating facts about yourself things.

Briefly started flat hunting and didn't really get off to a good start. Viewed one flat and it had cockroaches crawling on the walls so we decided we didn't really want to live there. Also had an encounter with a cockroach this morning. I was lying in my bed when I saw it on the floor legs in the air not moving. Carolyn was on her way out to a job interview. She told me to pick it up, so I tried to do it very skillfully with a magazine and some kitchen towel. As soon as I touched it it stared to run at me. I screamed "it's alive...it's alive..."really loadly, threw the kitchen towel at Carolyn and hid behind her in a panic. She, being oh so brave killed it. After that I don't know how I'll cope if I see any big spiders or anything else.

Anyway, I'm starting to talk rubbish again so I'd better go. I'll just leave you with the exciting fact that in Australia you can get low-fat mars bars. Bought one today and will try it tonight - will let you know the results!!!

Speak to you soon. Please keep in touch as I'm missing you all loads,

lots of love and hugs

Lorna xxxx
