Sorry for the delay in posting these. Took me a lot longer to type up than anticipated. Rehearsals tonight will be in Qudos. Please be there at 6.45 as we need to be out by 10. Bring all costumes.
Generally the show is looking and sounding great, little bits just need to be tidier. See you later, Lorna xxx
Chorus Notes
Ballad of Sweeney Todd
Generally good. Turns always entirely in sync, just be sure what you are all turning on. Please don’t sniffle or scratch even if you have to. Dobie, can you move into a further forward row, beside Sarah Bryson. Josh is poking out in front of the other rows. Hands must all come down at the same time – as soon as you have finished holding the long Sweeney they must all come down at the same time.
No Place like London
Make sure that you don’t clump and are using all the space you have to use. Don’t arse around in the background. Be sure of all entrances and exits, enter as soon as the music starts, before Alex and Rooney, exit staggered throughout Todd’s No place Like London, be gone by “Turning beauty into filth and greed”. Don’t just exit like you’ve been told to exit, look more natural. Fisher people should be the last to go. Skank whores must shield Claire until she makes her entrance. Please be silent when on stage
Poor Thing
Is looking a lot better than it ever has, but everyone please be sure what you are doing and look nice and regal as you enter. Amy Fieldhouse – you look so elegant and innocent, it looks beautiful. Please be quiet in the wings and when exiting as it was really noisy the last time which spoils the mood of Alex’s emotional outburst.
My Friends
Specialist Singers come on slightly earlier. Watch your words, half of you are singing swing your razor when it should be lift
Green Finch and Linnet Bird
Use the market sellers, they will have props to buy. I know you are on for a long time, but you can exit and come back on, as long as you don’t all do it at once. Again, use all the space available and don’t talk whilst background acting. Exit just after Amanda exits, don’t leave her there alone. Market sellers should be the last to exit. Amanda – great. Lots of personality in the bird seller. Love your sales techniques with the chorus. Make sure you don’t sell all your birds before you have to sell one to Rooney. Don’t block principals, if you find yourself standing in front of them move immediately.
Pirellis’ Miracle Elixir Looking really good. Make sure at the start, before you get angry at Matt you are all smiling and happy to be at the market place. In Victorian times this would have been a fun day out, and your getting a show.
The Contest
Kenny – you must say your line as your entering the centre, not after you are in it. Also shake Todd’s hand after he has shaved you. Generally, make sure that you are background acting all the way through, not just when the principals are speaking. Be trying to see what’s going on, discussing it with your friends etc.
Three Tenors
Stand front stage centre, principals will have frozen. Look over, I know you haven’t had much time to learn it. Move straight into court positions at end of song, there will be a quick blackout for you to do so. Court will come in whilst you are singing.
God That’s Good.
Is sounding amazing, and blocking is getting there but needs revisions. Here are the lines that you stand up on. A few of you get it right every time, most people however are late.
Tobias: Right , mum Mrs. Lovett: Quick, Now Chorus: God That’s Good (Group one, stand up on God, raise glasses on That’s and drink on Good)
Mrs. Lovett: Toby, throw the old women out Chorus: God, that’s good (Group two repeat)
Mrs Lovett: Business couldn’t be better though (Group three repeat)
Todd: It should have been here by now Chorus: More hot pies! (Tap table on more and hot and stand on pies)
Mrs Lovett: That’s what makes the gravy grander Chorus: More hot pies (Group 1 stand up on more) More hot (Group 2 stand up on more) More pies (Group 3 stand up on more
Chorus: God that’s good that is de have you licious ever tasted smell such oh my god what more that’s pies good! (pass pies clock wise around circle)
Mrs. Lovett : Exactly Chorus: More hot pies! (Group 3 stand on more) Mrs Lovett: Gawd Chorus: More pies (Group 2 stand on more) Mrs Lovett: Right Chorus: More pies (Group 1 stand on more) Stay standing until Mrs. Lovett puts pies on table
Chorus: God that’s good that is de have you licious ever tasted smell such oh my god what perfect more that’s pies such flavour god that’s good (Look every two beats from one neighbour to the other, started on right. Stand on God, raise glasses on that’s, clink with person across from you on plink after Good)
After song, must quickly get set off. Will practice in theatre at tech run.
Johanna
Chorus entrances and interactions with Claire and Rooney great. I actually believed Josh was at his local barber, love bit with Yasmin and Matt.
Passer-by scene
Julie – watch accent, can sometimes sound a bit Scottish. Timing and reactions good though. Josh – don’t miss entrance
Quintet
Don’t look so much like you are shitting yourselves. It is sounding really good, learn your parts and it will be amazing. Try to look more relaxed on stage.
City on Fire
Chorus – must be tighter on the platform as you have less room than you think. Was mush better on Sunday than last Thursday. Enjoy it but don’t get carried away. When you get it right it look and sounds amazing, make sure that you are concentrating on the lyrics and watching Gregor. You must be silent in the wings when going on and off. Nicky – I love how child-catchery Mrs. Fogg is. She is very creepy – great. Gauze people, must take gauze off as one solid unit, can’t have you all doing it in little bits.
Judge’s Death
The Ballad after the Judge’s death will be sung from the wings
Final Ballad
Good. Dobie and Josh watch positioning. Should be in a V shape with Josh at the back. There people watch accent.
