For those of you suffering from post-show blues after Calamity Jane - don't be disheartened. You can start on the next show right away!

The first rehearsal for Carmen: the Musical is this coming Thursday (2nd October) at 7pm in Committee Room One. Auditions will be by way of 15 minute slots over the course of next weekend, the 4th/5th October. We will go over the procedure for the auditions on Thursday and will tell you everything you need to know then. However, we are aware that for those of you auditioning on Saturday, this only leaves one day to prepare!

So to give you a heads-up, copies of the audition dialogue and music are noted below. (It would also be a great help if you could print off and bring your own copies so that we know there are enough). Don't worry - the plot, and the various characters will all be explained on Thursday. This is just to give you a flavour of what's in store.

Audition slots will be allocated at the rehearsal on Thursday. If you would like to audition but cannot make it along on Thursday, please let a member of the production team know before Thursday night.

We'd really like to see you all on Thursday - hope you can make it along.

The Production Team
(Marion, Gregor, Amy, Hanna&Nicola)

EDIT: For some reason, the above llinks to the Word documents don't seem to want to work. If this gets resovled, I will amend the above posting.

EIDT#2: As above, the way to fix it is simply to copy and paste the link into the address bar.

In the meantime, here they are longhand:
===========================================================
CARMEN-DON JOSE

José:I came as soon as I got out - I’ve waited two months to kiss you (He goes to kiss her)
Carmen: Are you angry with me because you were sent to prison?
José: I would go back tomorrow, for you.
Carmen:Because you love me? Some of your friends were here earlier. That new lieutenant couldn’t take his eyes off me.
José: Did you dance for them?
Carmen: Yes. Are you jealous?
José: Yes
Carmen: Then I will dance again. Now. Just for you.
José: Carmen, wait, I have to go. I have to get back for roll call.
Carmen: What! You have to get back? For roll call? And I thought you loved me.
José: I do love you, but….
Carmen:You have to go.
José: I’m sorry
Carmen: You’re sorry! I’m sort too. How could I have been so stupid? One toot on a bugle and he runs away.
José: Carmen, please, don’t mock me.
Carmen: You mock me! (Indicating his sword) Take your toys and go! Hurry now, or you’ll be late (She turns away)
José: Carmen, I don’t want to go. Don’t you understand, I have to.
Carmen:(mockingly) He doesn’t want to go! But he has to!
José: I love you!
Carmen:He loves me. (Invitingly) In that case, don’t go.
José:Carmen, please, I really do have to go. But I do love you, listen to me.

===========================================================
MICAELA-DON JOSE

José: Micaela, what are you doing here? Don’t you know these mountains are dangerous?
Micaela: José, José, I heard everything
José: Then, I’m sorry for you.
Micaela: What about your mother’s letter? (Pause) What about me?
José: Micaela I can’t help myself she’s possessed me (Determinedly) I will have her. I will!
Micaela: But…
José: There are no buts. Please, just go away. Go home and forget you ever knew me (He walks away) Leave me alone.
Micaela: José, wait. (She catches up with him) Please come home. Remember how happy we were before you joined the army? And what about your mother? She really needs you. That’s why I came up here.
José: Micaela, I can’t. I can’t leave now.
Micaela: José, please come home. In time you’ll forget her. You’ll forget everything.
José: You don’t understand.
Micaela: (as he turns to go she speaks quietly) José, your mother is dying.
José: What?
Micaela: She’s been so ill, José. She wants to see you.
José: I must go to her. But I’ll be back, Carmen. I’ll be back.

ESCAMILLO - DON JOSE

José: Don’t move.
Escamillo: (Coolly) I don’t intend to. (He holds up his hat) A few inches lower, my friend, I might never have moved again
José: Who are you?
Escamillo: I am Escamillo. Toreador from Granada.
José: What are you doing here? These mountains are dangerous.
Escamillo: I know, but I can’t help it. You see my friend, I am in love – and what man would not risk his life to find the woman he loves?
José: I don’t understand, what woman?
Escamillo: She is a gipsy, and very beautiful.
José: (almost under his breath) Carmen.
Escamillo: Ah, yes, Carmen. So you know her? I heard she had run off with some soldier who threatened his commander and deserted, but I expect by now it is over. They say Carmen’s lovers don’t last any longer than a bull in the ring with me.
José: They say that, do they? And yet, you have ides of being next in line?
Escamillo: But my friend, don’t men in love often make fools of themselves? Besides I am certain she will find me, Escamillo, more of a man, longer lasting shall we say, that a corporal.
José: You think so? She may find you dead.
Escamillo: As I thought, you are the famous corporal. Ha, I came up here looking for Carmen and find instead, her lover. Although I do not see the lady. Perhaps I was right all along. Her ex-lover – I am delighted to meet you.
José: You won’t be so delighted when your blood is running down that pretty shirt.
