Hello everyone!

Below you will find a very long list of all the costume the chorus will need in both acts. I would really appreciate it if during the Christmas holidays you make a start on getting costume. By the beginning of February I would like everyone to have every thing they need – if possible.

Principals – I am making lists for you and will email them to you very soon.

Just on a wee note, I want to apologise to any one who has been confused about what ‘80s formal wear/wedding clothes’ actually looked like. I am going to start bringing things to rehearsal to give you a better idea of what to look for and I will keep posting ideas, images and websites here on the forum to help you out. If you want to get a good feel for what 80s formal wear looked like watch the original ‘Wedding Singer’ with Adam Sandler and pay close attention to the guests at the weddings. You can get the whole film on youtube.

If anyone has any queries or problems –anything at all – please feel free to e-mail me at Moony3264@hotmail.com or text/phone me at 07881438045.

Finally, have a wonderful Christmas.

Laura Bauld xxxx

Scene 1: ‘It’s Your Wedding Day’ and ‘Someday’

Colour scheme: pastels, blue, lilacs, coral, pale grey. I also have no objections to any form of pink. It doesn't matter if the clothes you are wearing has a darker/black/just general pattern - as long as it keeps to the colour scheme overall.

Bride: Emma Stuart
Groom: Paul ‘Cavey’ McMeekin
Best Man: Darren Thorpe
F.O.B: Colin Bryce
M.O.B: Zaylie-Dawn Wilson
F.O.G: Rob McMillan
M.O.G: Jennifer Halliday
Bridesmaids: Angela Turnbull, Ellen Dorrestein, Kirsty Campbell, Lucy Wild, Susanna Gordon, Suzanne McLean (Group 1 Specialist Dancers)

Groom, Best Man & Father of the Bride: It would be helpful if you all had a black jacket and black trousers. For the Best Man and Groom I would like you to have a pale pink shirt. Find something in Primark or a charity shop.

Mother of the Bride: Something MOB like.

Boys: No dark suits. Trousers should be grey, white, baby blue, light turquoise or even pink. Shirts should be pastel colours with a skinny/normal tie. Braces would be a nice extra touch but must correspond with the colour scheme.

Girls: No dark dresses – this means no black, purple, red etc. Basically, no deep colours. Light and fresh. It would help if they were 80s style but if this is hard to find then invest in a prom style dress and I can give you tips on how to make it more 80s.

Bridesmaids: It’s been asked that you wear the same dress. I am currently trying to source something suitable and these will be hopefully made for you. However, it would be helpful if you could tell me your size of top and skirt. Just send me a wee e-mail if I don’t get round to asking you at rehearsal.

NB. Make sure that your costume also corresponds to whatever character you have been given or chosen for yourself. So, if you’ve decided to be an older person don’t buy a cool, hip prom dress that 80s kids would wear.

Scene 4: Robbie’s Wedding

Priest: Ben Galloway
For this you will need a black shirt and black trousers. I will provide the white collar.

Chorus: Some of the chorus are required in this scene. If you are, then you will need to maybe costume swap with some one as it would be helpful if you had a different dress/jacket on. If this is impossible then wear the same dress/jacket as before but maybe throw a shawl or scarf over it so it looks different. I don’t mind if some people are wearing coats as it is an outside wedding.

The people NOT in this scene are the girls in the Locker Room at the beginning of ‘Pop!’ (see below)

Scene 5: ‘Pop!’

Girls in Locker Room: Hannah McCormack, Melissa Grey, Amy Parrish, Jaime Eyre, Stephanie Henning, Alice McNaugher, Caroline Topping, Suzanne Gordon, Gemma Murdoch, Esther McMillan, Sarah Daly, Cara Gaffney, Claire McBrien, Hannah McKellar, Jennifer Campbell, Laura McLuskey, Lily Burke, Siobhan Murphy, Abbie McLean, Abi Abbslop, Katie Renton, Ami Duncan.

Costume : The girls in the Locker Room are supposed to be waitresses who work with Julia and Holly at the Wedding Reception Centre. There you need a white blouse and black skirt - something plain and simple. Get a cheap school shirt and roll up the sleeves.

NB. This group of girls will NOT be present during Robbie’s wedding in the previous scene in order to give you time to change from your wedding attire into waitress uniforms. Some girls in this group are already waitresses from the opening number.

Chorus and Minor Parts in Restaurant

The second half of ‘Pop!’ takes place in the revolving restaurant where Glen finally proposes to Julia. Some people are going to be at tables, some are going to waitresses or waiters.

NB: If you are NOT in the Locker Room you are in the Restaurant as a paying customer.

People at Restaurant including Mookie, Crystal, Donny and Tiffany: The look is classy 80s – going out to dinner clothes. You will have time to get changed or swap costumes during the Locker Room scene but it will be a quick change – so be warned.

Waitresses: Angela Turnbull, Ellen Dorrestein, Kirsty Campbell, Lucy Wild Suzanne Gordon, Ashleigh Carter, Hannah McCormack, Jess Brodie, Susannah Johnston, Yasmin Galloway
Waiters: John Gerard McFaulds, Cavey McMeekin
Costume: I want each waitress and waiter to have a black waistcoat. If you don’t have one, don’t panic! We have lots in the stores. I will get back to you all on shirts etc later on.

Scene 7: ‘Casualty of Love’

Colour scheme: Emerald Green and Peach

Bride: Ashleigh Carter
Groom: Ben Galloway
Best Man: Lee Costigan
F.O.B: Kenny Stewart
M.O.B: Laura McLuskey
F.O.G: Allan Matthews
M.O.G: Kirsty Yeung

Bad Haircut Guy: John Gerard McFaulds
A horrible wig will be provided.

Loser Guy: Ronan Radin
The look we are going for is the Mr. Spock look of Star Trek fame. Therefore, we are speaking of the blue shirt and the pointy ears. And if you can do the ‘Live Long and Prosper’ hand sign then you’ll help complete the look.

Sideburn Lady: Melissa Gray
Sideburns will be provided. And a nasty yet glorious hat.

Large Lady: Esther McMillan
Esther, prepare to be padded. Therefore, if you get get a dress that is a size or two bigger than usual it will allow room for your ‘transformation’.

Casualties of Love: Hannah McCormack, Melissa Gray, Amy Parish, Jamie Eyre, Sarah Daly, Susanne Gordon, Caroline Topping, Ben Galloway, Gemma Murdoch, Esther McMillan, Ronan Radin, John Gerard McFaulds, Rob McMillan, Alice McNaugher, Stephanie Henning, Colin Bryce, Peter Stalrajter.

Costumes for the Casualties should be the bad side of the 80s. I heartily encourage florid floral patterns, dark or neon colours – mix and match them to your hearts’ desire. The more ridiculous and tragic you look - the better. Basically, if you look like you covered yourself in treacle and then rolled around in the ‘Reject Bin of the 80s’, I will be most pleased.

Ensemble: As the colour scheme is emerald green, it would be nice if your costume was darker in colour than before. Greens are encouraged but not necessary. It would be nice if the boys have green ties of some sort.

NB: You will have the ‘Somebody Kill Me’ scene previous to this to change into your costume for ‘Casualty’. Some people may have more time to change – especially those girls not needed in the restaurant of ‘Pop!’ – but even then it will be a quick change.

Scene 9: ‘Today You Are a Man’

Colour scheme: Black, white and blue

Chorus: You will have the ‘Come Out of the Dumpster’ to change into your costumes for this. Like the weddings, it is a formal event.
Each boy MUST wear a kippah which is the rounded skull cap which Jewish men wear at religious cermonies. These will be provided.

Bottle Dancers: John Gerard McFaulds, Ronan Radin, Cavey McMeekin, Daz Thorpe, Peter Stulrajter
Costume: White shirt, black trousers. You will be given the amazing ‘bottle hats’ which you will wear during the dance.

Jared: Niall Murray
You will need a nice blue shirt and tie with trainers – not black shoes. I’m also undecided whether to put you in a baseball cap or a kippah but I will get back to you soon as possible.

Scene Ten: ‘Not That Kind of Thing’

Clerks: Caroline Fattah, Emma Stuart, Michelle Balogh, Jennifer Halliday, Kirsty Yeung, Elspeth Coates
Costume: You should look smart. Possibly a black suit jacket and black skirt with white shirt. Visit Debenhams or Frasers and see what the ladies wear there are copy their style.
The scene goes straight into ‘Saturday’ so while the ‘Church Tongue’ scene is going on, I would advised you run off at change into your ‘Saturday Night in the City Costume’.

NB: If you are a clerk then you should possibly leave once the song ‘Today You Are A Man’ is finished to give you time to get changed.

Chorus: Chorus are supposed to be shoppers at the mall along with Robbie, Julia and co. If you are supposed to be on in this scene – you need to run off after the bar mitzvah and pull on your ‘Saturday Night in the City’ costume and then cover it up with a coat because this scene goes straight into ‘Saturday’. You have the ‘church tongue scene to finish your ‘Saturday’ look or whip off your coat. I’m not a hundred percent sure if this will work but we can only wait and see.

‘Saturday Night in the City’

Chorus: Think 80s rave. I want neon, bright colours and sparkles. ‘Slutty’ is optional but highly encouraged – for both girls and boys. This will be probably the only time you will be able to wear your legwarmers so bring them out in full force.

Claire Burke you are a waitress in this scene. I have been told that your ass is stared at and admired by the ever rapey Glen so something incredibly short and tight would be appropriate. As long as you can dance in it.

Podium Dancers: Lucy Wild, Hannah McCormack, Susannah Johnston
I am going to come and talk to you all about costume but it would be nice if you were all co-ordinated in some way. And your costumes will be very ‘Fame’.

ACT TWO

Scene 1: ‘All About the Green’

Chorus: You should be in 80s work clothes. Black suit jackets, trousers and skirts. I do not mind if girls want to wear trousers. Feel free to embrace the shoulder pads if you can find something with them in it.

Specialist Dancers: Ashleigh Carter, Jess Brodie, Yasmin Galloway, Hannah McCormack, Laura Bauld, Susannah Johnston
Costume: Keep to the work clothes but try and make the skirts a short as possible. Yasmin, as Glen’s personal secretary, be very slutty.

Scene 2: ‘Right In Front of Your Eyes’

Specialist Boy Dancers: I would like you to be in a black suit jacket and black trousers. You are supposed to be in tuxedoes when you dance with Holly so I will provide the bow ties but if you have one bring it in.

Scene 3: ‘Single’

This is a boys only number set in the bar.

Bum: Peter Stulrajter
We are going for a ‘homeless person’ look. Think lots of layers, a big coat, hat and fingerless gloves.

Ricky: Michael Gallagher
A shirt of whatever colour you chose, black waistcoat, black trousers and I will provide you with a bartender’s apron.

Other boys: 80s casual clothes. Some of you feel free to wear your work stuff as if you’ve just finished a long day in the office and want a refreshing Alabama Slammer to take away your woes.

Scene Seven:‘Rosie’s Engagement Party’

Chorus: Formal clothes like what you wore in the previous weddings. I have no preferred colour. Go crazy.

FINALE: ‘It’s Your Wedding Day (Reprise)’

Chorus: It is Robbie’s wedding to Julia. Wear whatever 80s outfit you like. Bright and happy – some thing cheerful to warm the cockles of the audience’s heart!

In addition -for the girls especially - have a look at these websites for cheap dresses in the sale and the clearance sections.

http://www.boohoo.com
http://www.asos.com
http://www.peacocks.co.uk/

Sometimes you can get really good stuff in there. But visit the high street shops over the Christmas holidays -there will be thousands and thousands of sales and you may just find a piece of 80s styled perfection. Also go to charity shops and see what you can scrouge there.

It's up to you how much you spend. But please do not go overboard. Have a look around. If there is a problem I will try and sort something out.

If you do decide to buy any costume items (or anything else) from boohoo.com please go via the cecilian easyfundraising page http://www.easyfundraising.org.uk/tcsoc so that whilst purchasing your costume you can also raise some funds for the society.
This applies to many many more shops that might be useful for costume shopping, such as
Clothing at Tesco
Matalan
Georg.com (asda)
Dorothy Perkins
New Look
M and Co
Miss Selfridge.
Ebay
There are many many more shops than this on easyfundraising, these are just a few of the cheaper ones.
Love love xxxx

Heya

What are we thinking for shoes? Would plain black heeled stage shoes do? Or would pumps be better for some scenes?

It depends on what you are comfortable with. I would be more inclined to say pumps because the stage floor from what I recall from Carmen was quite slippy in character shoes. I don't want any one to have an accident.......
